A versatile cooking oil, canola is a great choice for sauteing, baking and making salad dressings. It has one of the lowest amounts of saturated fat of all common cooking oils.
With a high smoke point, this canola oil allows for the flavor of herbs and spices to come through in sauces and marinades. The bulk 35 lb. size is perfect for restaurants and cafes to keep on hand.
Kevala Organic Canola Oil
Canola oil gets a bad rap. That is often due to misinformation floating around on the internet. The most common misinformation is that all canola oil is genetically modified, which is not true. Some of the other misinformation is that it is solvent expelled with chemicals, which is also not true. The canola oil we carry, which is non-GMO and organic, is expeller pressed which means the seeds are physically squeezed rather than using a chemical solvent like hexane to extract the oil.
The seed used to make this oil is a variety of the Brassica napus L plant which is closely related to mustard and cabbage. The oil is made from the rape seed that is grown and processed without the use of any pesticides, herbicides or GMOs. The canola oil is then further refined to remove any impurities, resulting in a pure and clean cooking oil.
It is a great choice for high heat cooking such as frying and roasting. It is also very light in taste and will let the other ingredients in your dish shine through. This oil is also good for salad dressings and dips. It is cold pressed which makes it milder in flavor than most other cooking oils and also helps preserve the healthy omega 3 and omega 6 fats.
We chose to carry this brand because they are a family owned and operated business in the US. We feel that they are an excellent source for a quality product and they produce their oil in a facility that is completely free of peanuts and tree nuts, which is important since those are known allergens.
This is an organic, expeller pressed canola oil that is a very light color and taste. It is produced from the seeds of a variety that was developed by conventional breeding in the 70s and were never genetically modified. This non-gmo canola oil is expeller pressed which means it is not chemically extracted with hexane or other chemical solvents, but it does still go through a refining process to remove any remaining impurities.
La Tourangelle Organic Canola Oil
La Tourangelle is a small French artisan oil maker that had the vision to make high quality artisan oils available in America. They have made it their mission to bring the same French oil milling techniques and traditions to California. This includes hydraulic presses and cast iron roasting kettles. Their oils are made from fresh, hand-picked organic nut and seed kernels. They are expeller pressed, unrefined and deodorized in accordance with European Organic regulation.
The canola oil they produce is from GMO-free organic canola seeds that are grown and processed without the use of pesticide or chemicals. This makes it a clean and wonderful everyday cooking oil. It also has a low saturated fat content and a fair amount of omega 3 and other unsaturated fats.
La Tourangelle offers this same great everyday cooking oil in their convenient non-aerosol spray form as well! It is perfect for sauteing, baking, drizzling on your finished dish or blending into a dressing or sauce. It has a high smoke point and is ideal for medium-high heat cooking or for use as a non-stick cooking spray. The spray can also be used as a natural air freshener.
Saffi Saana Non-GMO Canola Oil
The Saffi Foods Tasting Kit is a great way to get a sense of the unique flavors of their oils and vinegars. It includes six 4 oz bottles of their best-selling oils and vinegars.
Saffi Saana Non-GMO Canola Oil is made from Non-GMO rapeseeds extracted using an expeller, which is similar to cold pressed olive oil. It’s also glyphosate-free. This canola oil has a mild, slightly nutty flavor with a smoke point of 450°F.
The expeller pressed process is considered healthier than the solvent (hexane) extraction method. However, the physical pressure of the machine used to squeeze the seeds can cause friction and heat, which is why this canola oil is not technically cold pressed. It is, however, still hexane-free. This oil is great for cooking, baking, and sauteing.
